SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KIEM) – A North Coast Assembly Member is supporting the use of cannabis-based medicine in a new bill that has been signed off by Governor Jerry Brown.

Young patients with severe epilepsy will be allowed to take a newly approved drug, Epidiolex, derived from cannabidiol – or CBD.

The medication is a derivation of cannabis, and the first of its kind to be approved by the food and drug administration.

Jim Wood’s, AB 710, allows physicians to prescribe the medication to those two and older.

Epidiolex is expected to become available to patients within a ninety day period.
