Ferndale man killed in Highway 101 logging truck crash identified

HIGHWAY 101, CA. – A Ferndale man killed in a logging truck crash is identified.

57-year-old Ronnie Machado died Thursday on Highway 101.

He was traveling northbound in a logging truck, near Standish Hickey Park when for unknown reasons, he crossed into the southbound lane.

The logging truck collided with a Dodge Ram pickup, which spun and hit a Honda CR-V.

Machado’s logging truck went over the shoulder, hitting a utility pole and tree.

He became trapped in the truck and died on scene.

The other two drivers were uninjured.

California Highway Patrol does not believe alcohol or drugs to be a factor.
