The sheriff’s office says the caller is asking residents for personal information, and claims there is a problem issuing your SSA check with their computer system.
Deputies advise that if there’s ever any doubt, call the SSA’s toll-free number, not the number the scammer provides, then verify the reason for the call, prior to giving any of your personal information.
As always, if you ever suspect a scam, report to law enforcement.
